About Our Community

Home to Appalachian State University, a NCAA division 1 school, Watauga County has also been named the second-best school system in the state.
Outdoor enthusiasts have many options, such as whitewater rafting, skiing, canoeing, camping and hiking. Fans of music and the arts will enjoy the multiple festivals including Merlefest, the Horn in the West, and the Appalachian Summer Festival. The High Country's mild summer weather draws many visitors who want to beat the typical heat and humidity of the South.
